If there’s one thing that my PhD dissertation made clear to me, it’s my aversion for garbled, longwinded, and boring language. I have since followed three guiding principles: 1. less is more, 2. no expression is sacrosanct, and 3. say what you mean.

Especially for public speaking, these three guidelines can help you conceive, craft, and hone your message. Easier said than done? Certainly! Writing is, at its worst, a nightmare we keep pushing off, and at its best, a labor of love.
